Synopsis

A fictional school chum fascinated by the talent of his buddies, narrates through the prolific but sometimes difficult relationship of Rodgers and Hart. Between some of the most beautiful songs written for the theatre, the narrator is joined by people who knew these men the best. Some real (Dorothy Rodgers and Vivian Segal) and some fictional, each shares memories of their reasons for loving these complicated but brilliant men. The result is a very personal and moving evening.

Nobody's Heart features a cast of five strong singing actors. Featured songs include hits like Johnny One Note, My Romance, Isn't it Romantic, My Funny Valentine, and Bewitched, as well as rarely heard songs like Mountain Greenery, Zip, and Way Out West.

Reviews

"In constructing the piece, David Bishop and Shawn Churchman wanted to offer more than a well-paced, entertaining set list. As the music ranges from the insouciant to the heavy-hearted, occasional between-song narration provides poignant glimpses into the private lives of each musician…the added scenes not only hold the musical numbers together by giving us a narrative thread, but also deepened our connection to the personalities behind the music; it puts faces to famous songs that so typified an important American era. That link, between the music and and the lives of its composers, is the most successful quality of the show."

Michael Ragozzino, Fairfield Weekly

"Tied together nicely by a narrator portraying someone who claims he knew the songwriting duo as they were on the cusp of stardom in the early 1920’s, the fast-paced, two-hour revue runs through nearly 25 years worth of music…the right mix of vocal talent and creativity, even the oldest of songbooks can feel both classic and refreshing.”

Mark Ginocchio, The Stamford Advocate

"Doing a show that focuses on and celebrates the work of a singer or composer can be a difficult task, for there are all sorts of pitfalls that fortunately Nobody’s Heart…doesn’t fall into. The show is a well-balanced, consistently entertaining look at one of Broadway’s most prolific and creative teams…"
